I was sifting through my wedding pictures and I felt like sharing one today! It's a little bit of a personal day as today would have been my mom's 63rd birthday. Miss her everyday but I know she's looking down on us!

Ignore the seaweed! It will be 3 years this summer and I still want a do-over every year like that one basketball wife!

Oh and I have to give a little shout-out to a fellow blogger Cris, of Kiss My Tulle as she just recently lost her dad in the midst of her wedding planning . Same thing happened to me and it definitely dampens the whole planning process. My mom passed away 2 months before and all of a sudden my inspiration and happy planning was out the window. Some family members even asked if I was cancelling which made me question myself. Keep strong Cris! He's happily looking down at you and believe me, he will be there there, always.

Hope everyone has a happy weekend! It's finally dropping below 70 degrees here in LA and it's starting to feel a bit like winter (not that I'm happy about it).

How were your Christmas Holidays? I hope they were as happy and fun as mine! I got to host this year and although I initially wanted a big tree, I found this cute, white Christmas tree that I fell in love with.

Real Wedding :: Rhia + Allan!

Here is my favorite shot from a wedding I helped Eva, a good friend, owner of the The Wedding Pantry and OC planner, coordinate.

All along the planning process, Allan was super quiet (not entirely out of the ordinary) but on the day of the wedding, he completely blew us all away. As the music for the first song started, he got the mic from his brother and started singing away. Such a sweet moment(and yes, I did get teary-eyed)! Planning Tips :: The Bar Tab

Wedding costs are already up so where is it that you can save some bucks? The bar tab! If you're budget doesn't allow an open bar, here are a coupe of our suggestions.

Have a cocktail hour with open bar.
Only host wine and beer.
Have a signature drink/s!

The latter is my favorite because you can come up with such fun drinks! Choose your favorite drinks or concoct a drink that matches your color scheme. If I had to choose a drink for my guests, it would have to be either a Sangria, a vodka gimlet, or a lemon drop. The husband would probably go for an amber ale beer or a Jagermesiter (ew) based drink.

So I think I'm destined to meet Wendy Ramos of Wendy Ramos Photography because I was mistaken for her during this project started by Orly of our TWIPS group. I had found her prior to all this when I googled my name. If you're reading this Wendy, email me! :)

One Day in December is a whole month of inspiration from wedding bloggers and vendors. Yesterday Pretty Pear Bride posted and tomorrow it's Louise of Bijoux Bride's turn. In the mean time, here's a little bit of my 2011 inspiration and accomplishments.

1. Another year of marriage. You know how they say the first newlywed years are the most trying? I see how that's true, but if you sit back and and think about it, it's actually an amazing feeling to look back at all the ups and downs and realize how much in love with each other we still are. Can't wait for what's to come in 2012!

2. Another year of helping couples plan their big day! Still with passion for what I do since day #1. I loooove looking back at these gorgeous shots because they're more than just shots, they're moments. Following your heart is definitely not difficult but it is a bit so when you have to take care of the business side. After all, I still have to make a living right? I'll take care of your event budgets any day over sitting and crunching my own numbers. :) *Thanks for this shot Shannon!

3. There are a couple other things I have accomplished and there's a list full of things which I'm thankful for, but these are my top two. I was reading somewhere that it takes 30 days to make a difference in your life. I really want to take on that challenge. I know they say big things come when you "feel the fear and do it anyway" and that's perhaps something that we all should be doing on a more frequent basis. I can say I've done it more often, but not as much as I'd like.

Who wants to join and keep each other accountable? I'm thinking my start date will be in January and I'll work on my list until then.

If you read my blog, you'll know this next color combo is one my favorites. I think my final choice on favorite colors ever is blush pink and aqua/tiffany blue. Maybe I'll change my mind when I'm 50 but I'm sticking to these in the mean time!

These next pieces are so fun and cute!

In love with the double layer veil. It's so simple but so dramatic and romantic! I know when I got married I went with a flower. I initially wanted a birdcage, but I didn't feel like my dress was right for it. Now that I look back, I would LOVE a traditional veil. Renewal? :)

So today was the day we made sandwiches and passed them out across the Los Angeles Mission.

I wanted to document the whole event, but once it was time to pass out the bags, it got a little hectic!

Thanksgiving on Skid Row

Happy Monday everyone! I wanted to share a little project I've always wanted to but never got around to. This year I'm doing it! Even this time around, I started a bit late, I'll take what I can get. I've started a page on Go Fund Me where you can read all the details.

I forgot where I read this tweet, but it talked about America's new poor being those same people that once donated to food banks. I thank God I still have food on my plate, am in pretty good heath, and have all the love in the world I can ask for. In a nutshell, this is what I'll be doing this Sunday:

"I'm raising money to buy PB J sandwiches, a fruit, and some of sort of drink to hand out the weekend after Thanksgiving to the homeless on skid row. We'll be driving all over Downtown LA handing out paper bag lunches to those in need and anything helps!

It's not a huge event, but I figure as long as we have 500 bags, 500 people will be happy. I've always wanted to do this and although I started late, I have a feeling we'll get this done! Every dolla makes a difference!"

Can't believe in a couple of days, we've raised $185! Friends and family have donated the paper bags and 500 drinks already. I cannot even explain how happy this makes me. We also have all the volunteers needed.

We'll be taking donations up to Friday so you still have time! Visit our page here and before you go shopping this Black Friday, think about donating even a dollar to help feed someone who is homeless and cold out on the streets of LA.

Today is our last installment of Audrey from The Bella Bambino's guest posts. So bittersweet and so thankful for you Audrey! She gets personal again and as you read, you'll realize this should be part of the script from the recent Bridesmaids movie!

MOH Confessions

The MOH. The Maid of Honor. The chief bridesmaid. TheBachelorette Party Organizer. The Bridal Shower Planner…. The one who is goingto hold your dress up so you can pee… THAT’S ME!!! My cousin and best friend isgetting married and true to the pact we made as wee tots to be each other’sMOH’s; I am to be her MOH.

This is a role that actually carries a lot of pressure. Theseare my confessions (did you hear the Usher song in the background?)

1. Will my speech at the wedding be memorable orare you going to think it’s lame and overly sentimental? Let’s face it- when Iheard you got engaged I blubbered like a baby out of pride and excitement.( Ipromise not to tell anyone about any of our wild times or include embarrassingphotos in our photo montage.)

2. Is it wrong that when you told me you wanted anoutdoors/chic/country wedding, I nearly had a panic attack worrying that you’llask me to wear cowboy boots and I’ll have to pretend to be excited? Ok… theboots I can take but what if you ask me to wear a hat too? That .Will. Kill.Me- like seriously!

3. It’s a year away but… what if you turn into abridezilla? OMG- I’ll be popping Xanax like candy!

4. Is it wrong that I want to grill your fiancé(while I actually really think he’s a great guy) but still want to put the fearof God into him- that you mean the world to me and if he hurts you…

I. WILL. Hurt. Him.

If I take you to Vegas for your Bacheloretteparty, the family will rip me a new one for corrupting you and our othercousins… what the heck am I going to do that’s still a blast? If we do a bridalparty pin up shoot with RetroDolls, isthat creative enough?

6. While I am so happy for you, I am already sickof the comments our aunts make about the fact that I’m the older one and I’mnot married. I also am over the little side quips about “maybe you’ll meetsomeone at the wedding?” – did we forget that I already have a man-friend? What if when you select the bridal partydresses, it’s a style that shows my tattoos and I’ll have to actually admit tograndma that I am secretly covered in ink in places I’m not supposed to be? I’m in New York and you’re in CA, what if Ican’t fly home often enough and you think I let you down as the best MOH ever? I get that you’re “sister in law to be” wasbeing nice by giving you the bridal/wedding planner/organizer but I felt likeshe was infringing on my MOH duties- I am competitive. I will out do her, allday, every day, and show her what a real MOH does.! (Who dat? Grunt and fistpumping just occurred.)

7. Lastly, Irealize that you are probably going to play country music during your reception.My “I am enjoying it- this music is great” face is going to be fake. I am sonot a country fan but because it’s your big day- I am going to be the bestperson in the line dance (if you have that…please don’t).

I wonder if her cousin will read this!? I bet a lot of you out there can relate to her when you've been asked to be a maid of honor. It's a huge honor but it also comes with a lot of responsibility! I've gotten a few phone calls from the maid of honors of a couple of my brides asking me what exactly are their duties. I'd list the them here but then you might get overwhelmed. Congratulations! You’re engaged! You want to shout it fromthe rooftops and sing it from every rafter. You immediately want to book youre-session and get those engagement announcements out ASAP! Or do you….? This is a great, fun, memorableexperience for the first time “to-be married” couples, but is it for those ontheir “multiple” ones? Here’s my take:

I hate to admit it (no seriously, it took a lot of Bailey’sin this cup of coffee to say this out loud) but I am a “multiple”. I have beenengaged 2x. The first time was in my early 20’s (as in still using a fake idearly 20’s) and I thought marriage was the next step in our relationship. Wrong.Back Up. Young and Stupid sign flashing here. Yet at the time, I was soexcited, we sent out our engagement announcements and poof, a year later wewere toast. I finally gathered my ovaries enough to end what we were bothavoiding. I tucked the surplus announcements away in a box and moved on.

1 year (to the month) later… Man #2 walks into my life withhis charm, wit, and pouty lips and poof! 90days into it, I’m engaged again.Another round of engagement announcements, but this time with: save the dates,buy the house, the works…. This one did not end well. I ended up in bed for asolid month burying myself in tissues, and avoiding human contact. I had tosend out the “sorry our wedding will not be taking place- here is your giftback” announcements

Have I mentioned I HATE announcements with a passion by now?

Another box from Engagement #2 tucked away like ghostshaunting me from failed relationships past and I’m over it! My dad now refersto these announcements as my “rookie” cards and jokes that if I get engagedagain and walk down the aisle, no one will take me seriously.

So forget the boy who cried wolf, I’m now the bride whocried marriage; stuck w/ engagement announcements and a wedding dress I believeto be cursed! (I have since sold it and shredded all the announcements)

Now when my new “man-friend” asks over romantic dinners”what if we got married”, or “where do you see our relationship going… “ or “areyou ever going to start bringing me to family events” I give him the stink eye,and tell him that the only “announcements” in my future are the “We gotmarried” and end of story. I also remind him that I’m no longer keen to bring apoor unsuspecting man around a family that will joke about my “multipleengagement status to his face”.

I suppose it’s notreally fair to him and this is a big Sex &The City role reversal- rememberwhen Carrie and Big plan to get married and he’s a 3^rd timer??(fight scene when they argue about the number of guests)Yeah… that’s me, I’mBig, but you can call me Little.

So while painful, I’ve finally learned my lesson to take mytime, and that “announcements” aren’t for me- but I love to see all the cutestyled sessions that everyone else does.

Thanks for sharing with us Audrey! Although difficult experiences, I can see how strong you have become. Anyone have similar experiences? I can definitely relate but I believe everything happens for a reason. :)

Morning everyone! I have the pleasure of having Audrey from The Bella Bambino guest post for us with a little mini series. I love this girl! I met her because she has a huge heart. She volunteered to donate a flower girl dress for Wish Upon A Wedding's second wedding wish. She owns The Bella Bambino, which is special occasion children’s boutique specializing in christening gowns, first communion attire, flower girl dresses, and ring bearer suits/tuxes and handpicks them herself!

So cute! Here's her take on junior bridesmaids and flower girls.

What is a “Jr. Bridesmaid” exactly anyways? I alwaysdescribe it as a girl that’s too old to be a flower girl yet too young to be abridesmaid. (Aka: glorified way of not making a certain young lady(ies) feelleft out and not offend their lovely mothers by not finding a way to includethem in your wedding party ORfinding a way to include the young ladies you DO want in your bridal party butmay not be old enough o be bridesmaids) .

I hear about this all the time in my boutique. Moms come in worriedabout finding an age appropriate dress that isn’t too “grown up”. The girlswant to wear what the bridesmaids wear so as not to be confused as flower girlsand arguing begins. Luckily we carry quite a few options that can satisfy mostyoung ladies (and their mother’s, and their brides).

So now that you have these great dresses, what the heck doyou do with them after the wedding? REPURPOSE! Many boutiques including my ownwill sell you sashes, bows, ties, cummerbunds, and vests in different colorsvery inexpensively for you to keep on hand. Then you can reuse the dress orsuit for a different occasion. We commonly see customers that buy white orivory flower girl dresses buy extra sashes in pastel colors for Easter.

For Jr. Bridesmaids dresses we recommend removing the sashand taking it to a local seamstress to shorten the hem line from floor or tealength to the knee so it can be worn for a school dance or another socialdressy occasion.

Feliz Dia de Los Muertos!

Like some of you may have heard, The Wedding Pantry is moving to the OC Mart Mix in Costa Mesa and we had the opportunity to do the last window decor for the month of October.

Inspired by Dia de Los Muertos!

The paper streamer chandeliers were a cinch and I couldn't find mini white pumpkins so I spray painted! That wine bottle was a score at Trader Joe's and let me tell you, it's delicious and goes perfectly well with a Kupcakespot cupcake!

Halloween Wedding!

Good morning everyone! The end of the month is finally here so what a great way to end it than with a HalloWedding. While I was looking for some decoration ideas I stumbled upon Simon and Gemma's wedding and I thought it was amazing with a great twist for the evening.

Their ceremony began perfectly normal with family and friends by their side adorned with cute Halloween details to show the spirit.

But by the time the reception was around things started to get a little weird ... zombies, witches, werewolves, etc. started showing up to the wedding.

This Hallowedding had a great twist, the ceremony was perfectly beautiful and simple but by the end of the night they made sure that everyone came dressed in costumes to party with them and show their Halloween spirit. Don't you just love their idea?

Sugar Skull Inspired Display

We did this month's window display for The Wedding Pantry and I have a couple shots to share!

I was inspired by sugar skulls and Dia de Los Muertos which isn't until early November but what best way to celebrate its arrival! I always see inspiration boards that mix Dia de Los Muertos and bright colors so I went the total opposite way.

I went with gray and white. Clean and classier than the usual brights but I thought it turned out pretty awesome! We spray painted pumpkins white (because we couldn't find white pumpkins) and succulents gray.

Loved these wine bottles and had to get some. SO perfect for this too!

White streamer chandeliers hang on top. So easy to make! Hoping to share more soon!

Tuesday Tip!

Happy Tuesday everyone! Can't believe how warm it's going to get this week! 97 degrees tomorrow? Crazy! It was raining this time last week.

So we're going to have a new installment of "Tuesday Tips" and if any of you are brides, please feel free to email us with any questions. We're also working on another feature with more details to come.

Today our Tuesday Tip is all the DRESS!

I was reminded about this topic because one of our brides for next year has been dress shopping and I got an email letting me know that she might have found her dress already. I'm extremely excited about this as it's one of the most important details for a bride but I gave her this piece of advice: I suggest if you LOVE it to get it but you'll have to stop your search! You don't want to fall in love with another dress after you've purchased the one. The only this is OK if it's you want to be a two dress bride, then I say, go for it!

My number one advice for this is to wait! It's much better if you purchase your dress 5-6 months before your wedding. I would say even less but you need some padding for alterations if you need them. This way there is less time for you to fall in love with other dresses and it will also give you time to tone up or lose weight if you want to.

Meet Rocio: our newest team member!

She was one of our models for one of our recent shoots with Marisol Aparicio veils too and Little White Book Stylists. Isn't she gorg? I asked her to write a little blurb about herself and this is what she had to share:

I'm a student, worker, and intern who was raised in Inglewood but currently reside in Riverside while attending the University of California, Riverside. Although my study of emphasis in school is Spanish and Business I have always been extremely interested in things related to hospitality. My passion goes from event planning to arts and crafts to designing. I love planning events as well as outings with friends. In addition, I have a passion for baking! I’m still trying to perfect my baking skills but hopefully soon I’ll be an expert. Through my job at the university, I have been able to get some experience by planning a few events. However, school events and weddings are completely different; school events are great but weddings are just beautiful, loving, and touching. I look forward to working with Wendy and having her as my mentor so that I can gain more knowledge about all the essentials of event planning.

I've always been proud to be part of this organization that wishes weddings to couples where one is terminally ill. Here's a piece from The Bella Bambino's blog straight from Lisa, the newlywed wife and our last recipients. Audrey from The Bella Bambino donated a dress for their daughter and her daughter attended our gala. Wedding Weekend Recap

This past weekend we were part of Eva and Jonathon's big day! When I first heard they would be having no bridal party except for a marching band of their cute little, nieces and nephews, I couldn't wait to see. Some held these awesome shields using their feng shui colors, others had drums and batons.

Eva looked beautiful! I was able to catch a shot in church as we waited for the ceremony to begin!

Eva's best friend became an officiant just for this day, so sweet! Congrats Eva + Jonathon! You guys are perfect for each other!

Wedding Dessert

I think all the rave's been dessert buffets rather than candy. With dessert nowadays being designed so perfectly cute, I can see why and how this trend will stick around for a bit longer. Last Thursday we went to an open house in Yorba Linda at the Skyline Mansion and we found one of the cutest dessert buffets. Not only does Andie of Ditzie Cakes design and does meticulous work on her sweets but she can also include an amazing backdrop for it. As if these weren't enough reasons, she also offers desserts infused with liquors. I had a coconut cupcake infused with Malibu Rum, and yum!

The sugar flowers are just perfect! Andie also had truffle cake pops which were pretty much to die for. The cupcakes were also not just yummy but too pretty to eat!

I love my cakes but if you have a dessert buffet that looks like this, I'm sure a cake won't be missed!

Molly Sims Wed

Molly Sims wedding pictures recently came out on People and not only do I love her but she has great taste!

I love her blush bouquet and the different bridesmaids' dresses. I also know that Kathy of The Vintage Table provided her vintage tableware. Go Kathy! She was part of this shoot with us and we are so excited for her! Can't wait to see more details on the next issue!

Last week, we wrote about customized wedding shoes and how one of our close friends had gotten them for her recent nuptials. She was nice to send us a couple shots of her shoes and I must say, I love her Figgie Shoes! Holly got married at the Dodger Stadium and wore a Vera Wang for David's Bridal dress. So gorgeous! Another gorgeous detail was her bouquet made by Judy of Enchanted Gardens.

A closer look at the heels! Holly said she used a pair of shoes that she had bought at Nordstrom's and worn in already so she could be comfortable on her big day.

LeslieAnn + Schuyler :: Hotel Maya Wedding

As promised here is a wedding we had back in March at the fabulous Hotel Maya! I love that hotel! It has so much personality on its own.

LeslieAnn contacted me from New York to plan their wedding in LA. You would think the distance made it a bit more difficult, but it didn't! Not a single bit.

Ceremony time! El Javi is an awesome guitarist! He played during the ceremony and set the tone!

For favors, LeslieAnn loves to cook, so she gave her guests a cookie cutter with one their favorite cookie recipes.

We had guests sign postcards as the guestbook and after they returned from their honeymoon, I sent them all back to them in NY. Sweet way to reminisce!

Tuesday Shoesday + Mid-August Instagram Wedding Updates

I am dying to know if anyone has seen these before because I am IN LOVE! I can't for the life of me find who makes them! If you do know, please let us know!

They're gorgeous! You don't have to be getting married for these right? I want them!

We have a couple 2012 weddings that we are fully planning and designing that we are head over heels about! This past week we visited one of our sites that had a ceremony area that I couldn't pass by. Our bride wasn't sure of having it in that location but it's just truly perfect!

It's a hidden gem in the middle of nowhere and it has the most beautiful, natural backdrops. A couple weeks ago we were laboring over these poms for a wedding that we are just dying to see!

Actually, their engagement should be coming up soon! We just got to sneak peek from the photographer's site and we are in LOVE!

Making your Wedding Day Sparkle!

Sparklers are a great addition to any wedding day they are beautiful, fun and memorable. Two of our recent weddings featured sparklers to accent important wedding moments. Sparklers are most often used during the couple's first/last dance and their entrance/exit.

It is important in selecting your sparklers to consider the effect that you want. Wedding sparklers can range in size from 10 to 36 inches in length. The shorter the sparkler the shorter the burn time. A 10 inch sparkler has an approximate burn time of 45 seconds, whereas a 36 inch sparkler can lasts up to 5 minutes.

So make sure your sparklers add the sparkle that you want and email us if you're looking for a trusty online vendor!

Wedding centerpieces are always a great touch to a reception and it is something that your guests will love. They add extra energy to the room and become a wow-factor to your reception tables. As we all know, an arrangement of flowers seems to be the most common centerpiece. Flower centerpieces are beautiful but why not try something unique. Having some type of theme might give you the perfect inspiration for a centerpiece.

There are plenty of ideas for you to choose but no matter what you decide, your centerpieces will absolutely look stunning the day of your wedding.

When it comes to centerpieces, I personally love the ones that included flowers or candles. They look elegant and adorable. There are also other centerpieces besides the usual flowers and candles that are truly stunning.

I know this is a wedding blog, but it's also a LOVE blog! I am totally taking up this idea with my husband!

You write 12 preplanned date nights for you and the mister. Instead of me doing all the planning, I'm asking Mr. J to write 6. They can either be free or prepaid and the fun part is to try and do something you've never done before.

Shannon also made a scrapbook which is an awesome idea! I love scrap booking but never have the chance or time to. Keeping up with this should be easy peasy!

Santiago de Compostela Wedding

If you didn't know, you'll know now that Andrea and I met through a UCLA summer abroad program that took us all the way to Santiago de Compostela. We talk about it ALL the time and want to go back soon! It was definitely a life-changing experience and because of this, we had to share this wedding we found via Grace Ormonde with photography from Photogen Inc.

Our Andrea still hasn't tied the knot yet. Maybe this will convince her and we'll have a reason to go back!

Designing Your Wedding!

After getting engaged, making your guest list and selecting your venue, what comes next? There are a lot of avenues you can take from here. Perhaps you know who you just MUST have as a photographer and want to start booking vendors to secure your date OR you can start designing your big day! This is definitely a good time to start thinking about what you've always envisioned in your head and share with each other. I always suggest to couples to talk about everything from favorite colors to shapes and textures to foods! Your wedding day is definitely a celebration of YOUR love, so why not add the personal touches that have made you both who you are today. Appreciate your heritage? Show it off! Traveled together a lot? Name your tables after the places you have visited. It's your story, your celebration!
